Shine Bright in the Palace

During Museumnacht Den Haag on October 11, Escher in The Palace will shine not only because of the art on its walls, but also thanks to a particularly sparkling artwork made by fashion designer Allan Vos. Especially for this evening, he is creating a unique piece inspired by the iconic crystal chandeliers made by artist Hans van Bentem, which have been illuminating the palace for years.

Do you happen to have a chandelier to spare? Then come to Escher in The Palace on August 8 or August 15!

On these days, you will receive free entrance to the museum if you bring in a chandelier. The crystal or glass from the lamp will be incorporated by artist and designer Allan Vos into the artwork that will be presented during Museumnacht Den Haag.

“After incorporating many crystal beads and chandelier parts into my clothing designs, it is now time for a life-size work of art,” says Allan Vos. “I take the human body as my starting point, stringing the beads and charms together to create a new person.”

On August 8 and 15, our atelier will be open from 12:00 to 16:00 for collecting the chandeliers. Allan Vos will be present to dismantle and clean them on site for later use in the artwork. Would you like to help artist Allan Vos with this? You can! Send an email to info@escherinhetpaleis.nl to sign up. If you have any questions about this project, you can also contact us through the beforementioned email address.

Not sure if your chandelier can be used? Here's what we're looking for:

  • Glass and/or crystal chandeliers in one piece (both wall and ceiling mounted)
  • Loose parts, provided there are more than ten
  • Crystal/glass beads in various colors, provided there are more than 25
  • The lamp does not need to work, but the glass or crystal must be intact
