Opening Escher & Islamic Art: 20 Perspectives

Opening Escher & Islamic Art: 20 Perspectives

Thursday 11 June at 18.15 hrs. Doors open from 17:45 hrs.

Opening speech by director Margriet Schavemaker.

More than a hundred years after Escher’s first visit to the Alhambra in Granada, Escher in The Palace presents a special exhibition in which his fascination with Islamic patterns is connected with contemporary art. Escher & Islamic Art: 20 Perspectives not only focuses on the influence that the famous Spanish palace complex had on Escher, but also on the way Islamic cultural heritage continues to inspire artists to this day. Starting from the shared foundation of Islamic geometry, 20 contemporary designers and artists enter into a dialogue with Escher’s work.

We hope to see you at the opening.
You can register up to and including Monday 1 June via the form below. Please note: places are limited, so don’t wait too long!
