Thursday, 7 December, at 5.30pm, Mrs. P. Krikke, mayor of The Hague, and Mr. P. Holmström, Swedish Ambassador, will lighten the large Christmas tree which is placed in front of Escher in The Palace at the Lange Voorhout. A Swedish choir will sing traditional Santa Lucia songs.
Please join us at the ceremony and enjoy a hot cup of cocoa or a glass of ´Bisschopswijn´ around the tree to celebrate with us the start of the Christmas season. The Embassy of Sweden, ´Vereniging Buurtschap Centrum 2005´ and´Escher in The Palace´ are cordially inviting you to be there.
The Embassy of Sweden has donated a Swedish Christmas tree to the city of The Hague almost every year since 1998. The candles in the tree are traditionally lit around 13 December, the day upon which the Feast of Lucia is celebrated in Sweden. At the darkest time of the year Lucia, dressed in white and with candles in her hair, will bring light into the dark winter night.
